Biography

Herman Vogt (b. 1976) was born in Drammen, Norway. Vogt studied composition from -99 to -04 at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Bjørn Kruse, Lasse Thoresen, Henrik Hellstenius and Olav Anton Thommessen as teachers. Vogt finnished a masters degree in composition the same place in -18 under the tuition of Asbjoern Schaathun. In -03 Vogt studied composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in The Netherlands with Martijn Padding and Louis Andriessen as teachers. Vogt studied the violin from -95 to -97 at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Vogt has received lessons in composition and been supervised in numerous masterclasses including Salvatore Sciarrino, Walter Zimmermann, Helmut Lachenmann, Brian Ferneyhough, Kaija Saariaho, Manos Tsangaris, Manfred Stahnke, Frédéric Durieux, Klas Torstensson and Diana Burrell.

Vogt has written a number of pieces for different instrumentations ranging from solo pieces, chamber music and orchestra music. He has been performed at concerts and festivals in Norway, as well as abroad, including World Music Days (ISCM Festival) in Sydney 2010 and in Belgium in 2012 (ISCM and Transit Festival, Leuven), Nordic Music Days 2010 in Copenhagen and 2012 in Stockholm, Ultima Festival in Oslo, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Borealis Festival in Bergen, UNM Festival in Helsinki, Oslo and Copenhagen, among others.

Vogt has received commissions and has been performed by several Norwegian ensembles and musicians, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Cikada, Oslo Sinfonietta, BIT20 ensemble, POING, Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, violinist Geir Inge Lotsberg, pianist Kristian Lindberg, clarinettist Rolf Borch, conductors Edward Gardner, Vasily Petrenko, Pierre-André Valade, Ingar Bergby, Christian Eggen, Per Kristian Skalstad, Peter Szilvay and Baldur Brönniman among others, as well as performances abroad including Finnish Ensemble UNKO, Danish ensemble Athelas Sinfonietta, pianist Ian Pace, cellist Timo-Veikko Valve and pianist Bernadette Balkus.
